Menicon EX
The Menicon EX rigid gas-permeable contact lens is of a spherical design. The posterior curve is selected in order to properly fit the eye and the anterior curve is selected to provide the necessary optical power to correct refractive errors. A peripheral curve system on the posterior surface allows tear exchange between the lens and the cornea.
The lens material is a copolymer of fluoromethacrylate, siloxanylmethacrylate and methacrylic acid.
The physical/optical properties of the lens are
- Refractive Index 1.443 (ISO/DIS 9914)
- Light Transmittance >90% (380 to 780nm) (ISO/DIS 8599)
- Surface Characteristics Hydrophobic
- Water Absorption Less than 0.5% by weight
- Oxygen Permeability (Dk) 51×10-11 (cm2/sec)(mLO2/(mL × mmHg)) (ISO 9913-1)
Lens Design
Menicon EX is specifically designed to reduce the burden to the cornea and to enhance smooth tear exchange while maximizing comfort during extended wear. Both front and back bevels are shaped in an aspheric configuration with a greater width.
